Public transport - from an other point of view

I have never really liked travelling by bus but I have always been too lazy to walk to school in the morning. Actually when I had to go early to school (early means before 8 a.m.) I usually woke up on the bus. I've never really cared about the other people around me. In Kaposvár I knew most of them when I was travelling home or to school.

Here in Pécs it's totally different. I can say it is interesting for me. I travel by bus at least twice a day when I am here. I sit down if I can and while I am listening to some music I am watching the other people. Usually I see students and old people. It is funny guessing who they are, what do they do judging by their outfit. I often see students with drawings, studio and stand cameras, musical instruments and tote bags, and I wonder how talented they can be in what they do or how important it can be for them. Maybe later one or more of them will be a well-known artist, a notoriety or a famous sportsman. Who knows? When I don't listen to music I can hear interesting conversations by students, usually about the university and sometimes about parties and teachers as well. :D

Sometimes it can be really annoying travelling by bus. For example when old people think that the seats are made only for them. I always stand up when I see them, so don't think I am rude, but since I am here I have heard old ladies shouting many times with other old ladies because they couldn't sit down. They were quarelling about who will take the seat. It was crazy and happened not just once. It can be very pesky. So we can meet many kinds of people on the bus. Sometimes it is funny, sometimes it isn't, but I usually find a reason to laugh or at least to smile. :D Except in Budapest. The last time I was there and used public transport we were having fun and laughing with my friend but after a while we stopped, because the others were staring at us. It was like in a graveyard or I don't know. Kind of depressing moral.

Anyway, the gestures of other people, the way they behave with strangers or the way they look at you, can tell many things about their personality. It is maybe a bit philosophical, but I often try reading from faces, eyes because I am interested in how did this people get to where they are now. Why are they rude with others or why are they so polite? Maybe because they were taught to be polite, or they are rude because they are in a bad mood. You never know... It happens often that you think you know someone and suddenly you realise that you are mistaken. On one of my lessons we had a discussion about this 'mask' thing. I heard a saying which sounds like 'You get up in the morning and paint on a mask, this is a part of your daily costume.' Some people agree with this, some don't. I can only say that in certain situations this mask comes off and it can be amazing but horrifying as well, for example at a 'bus-situation'.

So after this short analysis I only wonder what do other people may think about me? :D

Take care!

Friends will be friends...

At kindergarten we often asked each others: 'Who is your best friend?' Well I could never name only one person. I don't like this question. I have always had at least two 'candidates' and I have never been able to choose one. I guess it's good so, I personally feel happy about it.

I was thinking about friendship. I knew before I moved to Pécs, that from September I would see who can be called a real friend. Well, I am not disappointed so far :) My tips were good, those I expected to call me or chat with me every day payed off. This was important for me because friends are essential parts of my life. As we know we can't choose a family (do not misunderstand me,fortunately I don't have any problems with my family), but we can choose our friends.

I think there are different kinds of friends. Some you have because you share the same workplace, diggings, hobby, dormitory or anything like these. I mean you don't have many things in common, it is usually by chance, you usually don't choose it. There are people who are the friends of your close friends and you may often go out with them but you wouldn't call them your real pals. There is another type, fair-weather friends. I think I don't have to explain it. Sometimes we just need this kind of relationships too. I don't think that it is a bad thing, though in Hungarian it sounds like for me. So the last one is the most important, real friends.

I have always been wondering when I was younger and saw my parents going out with their kith, whom will I call my true friends when I will be at the same age as they are now? My mum told me that she knows most of these people since high school or secondary school. So they have passed through many things together. I often imagine myself in my fifties or forties, sitting in my living-room or at the balcony of our weekend house in a summer afternoon circled by friends. We are laughing and telling stories about our youth. :)

Well I hope it is not so close yet!:) Now I must finish, because I am meeting some friends, may we will do something that we can talk about 20 years later too. :)

Take care!

Auld Lang Syne

Here I am again, it is Sunday afternoon and I am packing again. This is the first time that I go to Pécs on Sunday because I usually go on Monday. The autumn break was good and relaxing for me.

As the weather is getting colder and the afternoons are getting darker we are getting closer to Christmas :) Ok, I know it is not so close yet but if we visit some supermarkets we could think it is already December. Some days ago I was reading one of the advertising papers and I found chocolate Santas all around it. I told mum to give me the latest one because it must be from last year. She was smiling and said that it is the newest one, if I don't believe I can check the date. She was right and I was shocked. So if you can't wait until the 6th of December you can buy chocolate Santas immediately!

Anyway I don't really have problems with this time of the year. Ok, I am not very keen on rainy weather but I love the colours of the leafs and I like wearing coat, scarf and gloves. Though I was born in August I couldn't say that I like summer the most because December has always been a glamorous month for me. Christmas, New Year's Eve, they can never be boring... But in every year there was something extra, something special about December.

I love Christmas songs and I am always looking for new ones. My latest finding is called 'Auld Lang Syne'. I have heard this song for the first time (at least I thought so) in the movie, Sex and The City. It was really good and all of my friends liked it but no one knew it. I was listening to the lyrics but it was really hard to understand so I gave up. This week I had plenty of time and was surfing on the internet and I found it on youtube. There are a lot of versions and I realised why I just couldn't understand the lyrics. Auld Lang Syne is a Scottish expression which means good old times in English.

As I mentioned there were many versions so I chose a faster one. It was a good decision because I realised that I know this song in Hungarian too! It is called 'Régi dal' and at secondary school we all sang this song on the school leaving ceremonies for the graduating class members. Then came another surprise, Auld Lang Syne is known in English speaking countries as a Christmas song or they sing it at New Year's Eve. That was very surprising for me.
So my Christmas-song-assortment is enriched with a new one and I am glad about it! :)
Here are some versions for those who are interested:

Popular, isn't it? :)

Take care ;)

Taste of 'bigcitylife'

Welcome home again. The fall break has already begun and I am very happy about it. Some days, when I don't have to worry about what to take home or to Pécs. In the summer I thought I wouldn't want to come home every weekend, I had enough of Kaposvár for a while. Well, I was wrong. I am always happy when I can come home, and the distance makes everything nicer here.:) In the last 6 weeks I realized some things and my point of view has changed a lot.

I like Pécs and I love big cities too so I decided to visit my friend in Budapest. I know her for 12 years, we have always been classmates since the first day at primary school. I came home from Pécs on Thursday and travelled to the capital on Friday. I had to get up at 5 a.m.!!! I couldn't tell the last time when I had to get up so early, it was horrible for me. Anyway I got to Budapest at 9:30, Viki was waiting for me there. We took the bags to her flat and then we started our shopping tour..:) We finished it at 7 p.m., yeah we can say it was looong :)We had a great time but this day made me sure that it was the right decision not to go there to university. As I mentioned I love big cities and yes, Budapest is beautiful, but I think it depends on from where.

We met some of my ex-classmates by chance and they told us that they haven't been at home for 3 weeks now. I couldn't imagine it. Anyway, it was fine for 2 days, not more. Later when I (hopefully) will have a job I want to live abroad, in a big city if it's possible but not in Budapest. Maybe later I will think differently and the distance will make Budapest as nice as Kaposvár is now for me. I wish all of you a nice fall break. Take care!

England's Rose

New task: choosing a song and writing about it. Really good idea! I have been thinking what I should choose. Maybe it should be my favourite song but I realized that I don't have an exact one: so I've chosen a song which is not my favourite and I don't listen to it very often. I find it beautiful though the topic is not really happy.

This song is called 'Candle in the Wind' by Elton John. Written for the funeral of Lady Diana, Princess of Wales and released in 1997, the song peaked at number one in the United Kingdom, becoming John's fourth number one single. It also peaked at number one in most other countries. The Guinness Book of Records 2007 states that "Candle In the Wind 1997" is the biggest selling single "since records began".

It is of course a sad song but I think beautiful at the same time. Diana was definitely a great woman and the song reflects it. Let me quote my favourite lines:

"And your footsteps will always fall here
Along England's greenest hills
Your candle's burned out long before
Your legend ever will"

I also like this song because of the piano. It is well-known that Elton John is a great piano player. Wanna watch the video?

Preparing for a journey by reading about a journey

This weekend was very good. I visited my grandparents and spent the evenings with my friends and sister. It is always good to go home and have some fun with the old friends. I like telling them about what it is like to live here in Pécs. So after this wonderful weekend I am having a rest and doing one of my homeworks.

We have to choose a book on Google and starting to read it. I and two of my friends are planning to travel to Paris in July for ten days to have a nice holiday. So I think of it a lot and I am getting interested in everything in connection with Paris or France. That’s why was the title ’France’. I have found a book called ’A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy’. I started to read and so far I like it.

I made some researches and found some critisisms and interpretations. One of them is by Sir Walter Scott, may you find it interesting:
"THE STYLE employed by Sterne is fancifully ornamented, but at the same time vigorous and masculine, and full of that animation and force which can only be derived by an intimate acquaintance with the early English prose writers. In the power of approaching and touching the finer feelings of the heart, he has never been excelled, if indeed, he has ever been equaled; and may be at once recorded as one of the most affected, and one of the most simple writers—as one of the greatest plagiarists, and of the most original geniuses whom England has produced.”

I hope I will have enough time to read it. Have a nice day!

A 'German week'

Hello! This is a beautiful day. After school I travel to Kaposvár because some relatives from Germany come to visit us after 6 years. I am very excited because they have changed a lot since the last time we were in Germany and we were missing them so much. They will spend only a week here because their parents are old and can’t be left alone for more than a week. They are the cousin of my father and his wife.

My father is German and we have plenty of relatives in Germany and here in Hungary as well. It is really good because I have been learning another foreign language since I was born. When the whole family gathers together we usually have to speak in German. Last summer one of my cousins got married and they celebrated it in Germany and in Hungary too. There was also a ceremony in the church which was a bit long because it was in Hungarian and after that in German. There are some cousins from the US too so our family is really multicultural.

I am happy about is because I can get to know other countries and places in the world. My favourite city is London but I also like Germany. I spent much time there during my summer holidays when I was younger. This weekend we plan to celebrate my father’s birthday. It will be delightful! Well, I must finish now because I don’t want to miss the bus.
Have a nice weekend!

Lost and found

Well, it is really interesting for me to start a blog because I have never been thinking of it. When I was about 10 years old I got a diary. I was really happy about it and I wrote almost every day some sentences about my life. Now it is such fun to read it. It reminds me what kinds of things were important for me and I can see how much I’ve changed since that. A blog is of course not like a diary for me. I plan to write funny or interesting stories that happen to me here in Pécs.

I already have one! Last week I went to a party with my friends. It was the first time here in Pécs so I was excited. The party was good, we were there until 3 a.m. Before we left we went up to the bar to buy something to drink and sat down for a while. After that we went home. In the morning I was packing my books and I couldn’t find my purse. I was very frightened because I knew I couldn’t have left it anywhere else just in the club. I had to go to school so I made some phone calls because my credit cards were also in the purse and I didn’t want to risk anything. My whole day was crummy.
When I finished at school I went to the club hoping that they have found it. I went in and asked a waiter. He was smiling and said ’Yes, we have found it!’. I couldn’t believe that ’Really????!’ ’No, sorry’ That was jolting… I turned away and wanted to leave when the waiter said ’ I was kidding, of course we have found it!’ Suddenly I felt happy and really lucky. It was a positive experience for me and I wanted to share with others. That’s all for the first time. Have a nice day!
